Duration: 5 days
In this hands-on feltmaking masterclass, you will design and create a reversible fine-felted dress or tunic that is custom-fitted to your body. Using a book resist, you will work with superfine merino wool, silk, and viscose to create a lightweight, beautiful garment.

What You’ll Learn:

  • How to design a dress or tunic that complements your body shape

  • Felting techniques using super fine merino wool, silk fabric, and viscose

  • How to create a seamless, reversible garment

  • Add embellishments, such as embroidery, to add a personal touch

This masterclass is suitable for individuals with feltmaking experience who wish to advance their garment- making skills by working with complex forms using a book resist creating a unique, wearable piece of art. It is designed for people with prior felting experience and is not suitable for complete beginners.

Program Schedule:
You will:

  • Practice and learn how to create a fine and even wool layout for a large product while creating fine felt

  • Work with various fibres to create beautiful felt

  • Experiment with colours to create striking pattern collages if you wish so

  • Create embellishment adding embroidery

  • Learn techniques for smooth and neat felted edges

  • Work with a sander

  • Learn the felting and fulling processes for large products

The program will include:
Day 1:

Morning: Arrive by 9:00 am. Practice a sample layout to learn techniques for creating an even wool layout efficiently, as the quality of the felt begins with the quality of the layout.

Afternoon: Create a resist for the dress or tunic based on your pattern's coefficient of increase. You will
receive additional patterns to continue working on at home. Decide on the embellishments for your
garment. The course ends every day at 5 p.m.

Day 2:
Work on the layout throughout the day.

Day 3:
Morning: Complete the layout.
Afternoon: Begin felting and sanding the dress and prepare it for embellishments such as embroidery. Leave it to dry overnight.

Day 4:
Add embellishments and embroidery to the dress.

Day 5:
Felt and full the dress in the morning.
Press with an iron and take photos.
If you finish early, you can create accessories to accompany your dress. I would recommend to have extra materials, such as merino wool, Margilan rarefied silk and superwash merino wool. This is optional.

Costs:
This 5 day course costs € 750, lunches, drinks, snacks included. The lunches are on a vegetarian base and fresh made every day. If you have an intolerance , please let it know in time. At the studio you can use the tools and some materials like cut-offs of silk, chiffon, pongee, wool yarns and yarns for embroidery.
You can buy Margilan Rarefied silk from Lena. Please email me: lena.archbold@gmail.com
